My Message

Thank you for your interest in supporting me in the Peterborough Walk/Run to Cure HD!

My dad, Peter Neuman, had a long and courageous battle against HD and finally found peace April 27th, 2018. My dad will always be remembered by his quick wit, playful sense of humour, and his infectious laugh. He was an engineer and graduate of Queens University and had a fascination with mechanical devices. Dad was highly intelligent and viewed no repair job at home as being either too large or too difficult to tackle. That is until Huntington's dug its tendrils in, and the disease became too much. Dad spent his last 7 years back and forth between various hospitals and nursing homes, idolizing the weekends when he would get to chug Iced Capps from Tim Hortons that his visitors would bring him. Through all the hardships he faced, dad always retained his sense of humour. There is currently no cure for HD, and effective treatments only address the symptoms, not the cause. There is currently a lot of promising research that was too late for my dad, but it may not be too late for my generation. This research takes time and is extremely costly, but with a donation, you can make a difference in the lives of people like me.

On Saturday, May 25th, I will be walking in support of Huntington Society of Canada (HSC).

HSC aspires to a world free from Huntington Disease (HD). Together, with your support, HSC maximizes the quality of life of people living with HD through services, support, advocacy, and research.

One in every 7,000 Canadians has HD, a devastating, degenerative brain disorder. The symptoms are like having Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and ALS in one disease. Every child of a parent with HD has a 50% chance of inheriting the disease.

Please show your support and help the HD Community find meaningful treatments!
